i hear the echo of rainfall through the bathroom’s window
it calls me, it draws me
the curtain
as I gingerly lift it
reveals yet another world
relentless, torrential
as if
it wasn’t just a mere inch of glass separating me
from
the fury
of nature’s storm
the moist air greets me as I emerge from behind
my bedroom door
curtains a-flutter at the window left ajar in the study room
rainfall echoes throughout the house
it’s knocking
a-knocking on my windowpane
something is knocking at my door
begging for entrance
sharp, stop, stutter
pit pat pitter patter
my room is cold
it seems to be rainier than the rain itself
shhhh-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh
it calls
the notes of disney’s lullabies tinker
from my phone’s over worn spotify playlist
it’s incongruent and hugely disconcerting
against the pitter patter of the rain
shhh-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh
it calls from the cracks of the sliding windowpane
demanding entrance
into my enclave
i hear the barely muffled whisper
of the night’s call
the sliding windows open
moist air greets me
the unreality of rain on my hand
i cannot sleep
my mind is full of marbles
and my heart of pop pop pellets
i cannot pay no heed
to nature’s call
therein comes a lull
the lullaby emerges
again
melodiously
the storm has abated
momentarily
i shall try to sleep.
